Village Holidays Regenerative Tourism Statement
At Village Holidays, we believe tourism should be a force for good — leaving our places and communities better than before. Regenerative tourism is at the heart of how we operate: from restoring historic buildings to promoting local partnerships and reducing our environmental impact.
We are proud to support initiatives that protect the local area, benefit the community, and inspire our guests to connect meaningfully with the places they visit.
🌍 Climate: Reducing Our Carbon Footprint
EV Charging Points – Two electric vehicle chargers have been installed at The Old Chapel Apartments to support sustainable travel.
-
Energy Efficiency – All of our properties have undergone major insulation upgrades, including recent improvements to soundproofing and thermal performance at The Old Chapel Apartments.
-
Office Heating Upgrade – In 2025, we removed inefficient storage heaters and installed a central heating system, paired with double-glazed windows, to lower energy use in our Edwinstowe office.
-
In-House Linen Service – We now manage our own linen, reducing weekly transport distances by over 30 miles and partnering with a local cleaner to minimise emissions.
♻️ Circular Economy: Reducing Waste and Using Resources ResponsiblyUse
-
Refillable Toiletries – We’ve replaced single-use bathroom products with luxury refillable bottles across all properties.
-
Digital Welcome Books – Guests receive a detailed digital guide before arrival, reducing paper waste while enhancing the visitor experience.
-
Sustainable Purchasing – Our welcome hampers prioritise locally sourced items to reduce packaging and transport impact.
🌿 Biodiversity: Supporting Green Space and Plant Lifers
-
Working with the independent restaurant beneath The Old Chapel Apartments, we’ve added herb and flower-filled planters to the front of the building — attracting pollinators and softening the High Street environment.
-
Where possible, we encourage planting and green landscaping, with a long-term goal of enhancing biodiversity across all our sites.
🏡 Place-Based Tourism: Restoring, Reinvesting, and Respecting the Local Area
All of our properties are located within the Ollerton and Edwinstowe Conservation Area, and we take great pride in contributing positively to its preservation and appeal. Every one of our accommodations has been carefully restored to breathe new life into buildings that had fallen into disrepair — always with respect for their original character and surroundings.
-
The Old Chapel Apartments were once a disused Methodist chapel on Edwinstowe High Street. It has been transformed into two beautiful self-catering apartments, preserving many original features including high ceilings and large arched windows.
-
Maun River Cottage, nestled beside the River Maun, was an unloved village house that is now a cosy riverside retreat, offering guests peaceful views and a direct connection to nature.
-
Bieldside Cottage was fully refurbished with the help of local tradespeople, retaining its original cottage charm while bringing in the modern comforts today’s guests expect.
-
Ropemakers Cottage, named in tribute to the area’s traditional trades, is a sensitively renovated property that reflects the heritage of the local community.
-
By working with local suppliers, hiring tradespeople from the area, and forming partnerships with nearby businesses like Olive & Honey, we ensure our presence supports the local economy, culture, and landscape — not just for today’s guests, but for future generations.
Our Vision for the Future
At Village Holidays, our vision is to grow in a way that benefits everyone — our guests, our community, and the environment. As we expand, we remain committed to restoring historic buildings with care, supporting local businesses, and finding new ways to reduce our footprint. We believe that tourism should enrich the places it touches — not only preserving their character, but enhancing their future.
Through thoughtful design, genuine hospitality, and strong local partnerships, we aim to inspire a more conscious style of travel — one that leaves a positive mark long after check-out.
