Hi, & WELCOME

TO VILLAGE HOLIDAYS

We’re Laura and Ross, the brother – sister team behind the brand and the creation of our beautiful self-catering village holiday lets that we’d love for you to stay in!

A LITTLE ABOUT US...

We grew up in the local area and in the holiday rentals business when back in 1990 our parents bought and renovated the derelict shell and overgrown garden of Maun River Cottage in lovely Ollerton village.

With much love and an incredible amount of hard work, our dad, Alan, transformed it into a wonderful family home, and just a few years later transformed it even further into a beautiful B&B, welcoming guests from all over the world so they could experience the best of what our local area has to offer.

MEET LAURA (& FAMILY)...

Laura is your perfect host – on hand for anything you need, but out of sight so as not to bother you to make your break as special and as convenient, as possible.

With a love for the outdoors and two young children, Erin and Finn, she’s the oracle when it comes to our local villages – knowing the best walking, cycling and running trails, the best farm shops for amazing local fresh produce, meat and cheeses and the best village pubs and great restaurants for a long lunch or special dinner.

MEET ROSS (& FAMILY)...

Whilst still very hands on managing and developing Village Holidays into the brand we aspire it to be, Ross is further away – living in Dubai with his young family working for one of the world’s best airlines and travelling the globe picking up amazing tips to make our holiday homes the best in the business.

A perfectionist at heart, Ross is always on the look-out for those thoughtful little touches when away on trips experiencing some of the best hospitality, not to mention places, that the world has to offer, and bringing them back to Village Holidays’ short-term lets so you can experience a self-catering stay that is truly unique to our area and all that’s around.

We’re countryside kids at heart and we love our local area – there is so much to do for couples, groups of friends, young families, older families and all in between! We have such wonderful memories of our childhood in and around our lovely village, that we now feel compelled to help others enjoy it too!

As passionate property developers inspired by our parents, we love nothing more than finding properties and renovating them into the perfect holiday home for short term rentals.

This is where the idea for Village Holidays was borne out of...

OUR LOCAL AREA

Our area is perfect for short breaks!

With Sherwood Forest, Clumber Park, Sherwood Pines, Rufford Park and Thoresby Hall all within a few minutes’ drive of all of our properties there is an amazing amount to do.

With a huge variety of woodland walking trails, cycling tracks, golf courses, lots of local history to take in and some beautiful little villages to visit, not to mention the local pubs and simply delicious restaurants that surround (literally) all of our properties! You are spoilt for choice of things to do.

WHY STAY WITH US...

Watching our mum develop a brilliantly successful short term holiday business out of our own home over the past 25 years and being lucky enough to travel extensively with our work – Ross as an airline pilot and currently a Captain at Emirates Airlines and Laura in her early career as a travel consultant – we feel we really have a knack for knowing what makes an amazing stay and what delights guests time after time.

We have developed our properties with all of this mind – each of our properties might be unique in its style, but all have a range of amazing little extras to help make your stay as special as we can.

THE OLD CHAPEL APARTMENTS

Loft-style living in the heart of sherwood forest

Village Holidays Edwinstowe 030.jpg

Having bought an old rundown Methodist chapel back in 2017 with the vision of restoring the exterior to its much-deserved charm, bringing life to the village high street where it’s centrally located and turning parts of it into luxurious holiday homes, a project was born!

Built in 1848 and positioned in the centre of a bustling, yet quaint village of Edwinstowe, an important medieval settlement associated with Sherwood Forest which is literally in the back garden, this property had a lot of potential, as well as a lot of challenges associated with restoring a building of such historic significance.

Fortunately, with Alan’s incredible property development expertise and love of challenge, the past three years have been spent renovating the property, and negotiating all of the permissions needed, to transform it into the amazing space it is today.

With two luxuriously finished mezzanine apartments with 5m high ceilings to the first floor, the original brickwork restored to give a cool and modern loft-aesthetic and beautiful 3.5m arched sashed windows replaced to bring ultimate light and impact to the property (don’t worry, we have blinds!), these holiday homes are most definitely unique to this incredible conservation area!

With the same thoughtful touches as our Ropemaker’s Cottage, we have thought of everything you need, and things you maybe didn’t even know you did! With a Nespresso coffee machine, a smart induction hob with downward draft extractor, a Smart TV streaming your favourite Netflix and Freeview programmes, Nest central heating and air conditioning, a fully kitted out laundry / boot room, entertainment library and multiple spaces for relaxing, chatting and dining, our Old Chapel apartments are amazing, not to mention insta-worthy, holiday homes right in the centre of Sherwood Forest!

THE ROPEMAKER'S COTTAGE

COSY countryside home in a quaint village setting

Ropemakers Cottage 036.jpg
Ropemakers Cottage 024.jpg

Our Ropemaker’s Cottage hosts an unforgettable break away in north Nottinghamshire.

It’s a wonderfully historic cottage nestled in the heart of Old Ollerton village; a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ type of village that is home to a beautiful stream and watermill and a real village pub, tearooms, and two great local restaurants including a family-run authentic Italian restaurant with a lovely waterside seating area.

Steeped in history and tradition, this cottage was once a fully working ropemaker’s home – the home of a talented weaver and his property, this periodic property retains some of the traditional features including oak-beams and original rope hooks to the ceilings.

Laura bought the Ropemaker’s a few years ago – it’s actually located directly between both hers and our parents’ homes in the village, meaning they’re always on hand to help with any little extras, guidance and inspo for making the most of the area, or simply to help you to make local grocery orders that can be delivered after you arrive!

Laura and her husband, Neil have recently fully renovated it into a wonderfully cosy, country cottage. It’s the perfect holiday home for couples and small families looking for a great base for an active outdoor holiday. It offers plenty of space and the perfect amenities. Everything is brand-new and nothing has not been thought of. From secure storage for bikes and golf clubs, a bistro set for the private courtyard, to everything you could need in a kitchen and more, to thoughtful family extras, including a cot/playpen, food blender, steriliser, toilet training necessities - we’ve both got young children and know exactly just how much you need to pack for even the shortest break so we’ve tried to lighten the load, literally!

Purpose-built, self-contained and simply stunning, our studio cottages make a perfect base for those wanting a home away from home whilst in the heart of the Nottinghamshire countryside.

Located in the garden of Maun River Cottage, a 17th century farmhouse and beautiful family home that has been welcoming guests to its B&B for over 25 years, these self-contained cottages were designed and built by Alan in 2014 and styled to complement it.

With dark wooden beams, an open plan living and dining area, stylish and fully equipped kitchen and en-suite bathroom with a walk-in shower and freestanding rolltop bath, these self-catering holiday lets are small but perfectly formed!

Each cottage has bi-folding patio doors that open onto a private seating area within the garden. With stunning rural views over the River Maun and the fields beyond it, the garden boasts an artificial lawn meaning it can be enjoyed all-year round, whatever the season. There’s also an original, restored beautiful red telephone box adding to the sense of heritage and pride this property exudes.

A generous welcome and continental breakfast basket awaits you, and Alan and Theresa are often around to share local knowledge of the best places to visit, the best routes to get you there and point you in the direction of the best pubs and restaurants all within walking distance!
